This service assists you in the process of selecting appropriate exterior colors, paint or stain, for your Victorian, Bungalow, Colonial, Retro, Modern house or commercial building. I have prepared exterior color schemes for virtually every architectural style building constructed in the North America from Colonials to Greek Revivals, through the many Victorian styles and including the Arts & Crafts types of Bungalow, Craftsman and Tudor. I also color contemporary architecture: Ranches, Bi-levels, and the recent wave of Modern Craftsman and Victorians. I have taught this topic at the graduate school level, and have an extensive knowledge of architectural styles and how they were colored when new, what elements were to be featured in the painting, and how they might look with more modern colors as well. I have a research library that contains over four thousand period architectural books and catalogues. Many of these include information on house colors. I often use them to identify some initial color suggestions. I work with you to select a color scheme and then provide you with specific color placement information for the painting process. If you need assistance in the selection of exterior colors, my research and experience provide the background on which I draw to give you expert advice. The work involved in determining house colors can be accomplished via Email or through the U.S. Mail.
I treat each commission on an individual and personal basis. I employ no assistants, nor do I use stock color combinations. I generally start by suggesting historic period colors because they highlight the architectural advantages of the structure better than many modern colors. I have designed colorations for modest Bungalows and Cape Cods as well as for buildings by such noted architects as Stanford White, Robert A.M. Stern and Eero Saarinen. My buildings have won awards after being repainted and you may have seen them in the pages of magazines such as Victorian Homes, American Bungalow, Cottage & Bungalows and Style 1900. My primary goal, however, is a client satisfied with their house and enjoying compliments from strangers and neighbors alike.
If you have a special project in mind please feel free to contract me. Recent examples include developing colors for new subdivision, and producing an historically accurate paint color card.
