Completed Projects - Colonial Bungalow

Colonial Bungalow in Oxnard, California

One of the most interesting and least understood bungalow types is the "Colonial Bungalow." This 1922 examples illustrates the simplicity of the standard bungalow plan but with columns and pediments.

"It looks great and we get so many compliments. The comments include that it looks very 'period' and 'rich.' The Ventura County Museum of History and Art used our house for a fundraising tour and everyone loved the house. These pictures probably don't do the finished product justice. Thanks so much for your help. Lisa and I really appreciate it. We know we would have never made the selection of these great colors without your help. They really make the house show its character.".Tom H

Compared to the warm autumn tones of the classic Craftsman Bungalow, the Colonial Bungalow employs brighter contrasting colors often in richer tones.

From a 1922 paint catalogue I selected a warm colonial yellow for the body and a colonial white trim.  These were paired with a 20s green window sash and a special deep red accent.
