Historic House Colors

Completed Projects - Brick Craftsman

Gable Front Craftsman - Washington, D.C.

The principal challenge with this house was creating a color scheme that worked well with the brick color, described as "muddy brown with black specks." The owners provided excellent pictures of the brick that allowed me to suggest colors to bring harmony between the brick and stucco.  A warm maple color was selected for these areas. The trim needed to complement the stucco and brick but not overpower them so a historic period white was employed.  To add interest, an historic color called "Indian Red" was used on the brackets and the paintable windows.  A William Morris era green was providing an outline color for the eaves and porch.

The Morris green outlines the porch gable and the Indian Red provides punch on the brackets and stair railings.

Painting the step runners helped provide a welcoming entrance.
